[News] NISEPA Commences Massive Evacuation Of Refuse In Minna Metropolis

The Niger State Government through Niger State Environmental Protection Agency (NISEPA) has commenced the massive intervention in the evacuation of solid waste and heaps of refuse dumps in Minna Metropolis.

The intervention is a sequel to the directive of the General Manager of NISEPA, Mall. Habib Abdulkadir to the Niger State Environmental Protection Agency to immediately clear all the refuse heaped in Minna Metropolis.

Mall. Habib Abdulkadir stated that this effort is geared towards reducing the level of environmental pollution caused by waste which tends to be hazardous to the environment and public health.

The General Manager, however, advised that the people should wake up to their responsibility by properly disposing of refuse to avoid this kind of ugly situation in the future that may warrant this kind of intervention.

He emphasized that the intervention has become necessary to prevent an outbreak of an avoidable epidemic.

The Environmental Protection Agency also seized the opportunity to advise the residents of the areas to assist the authorities by not throwing their refuse anywhere but by properly packaging them in waste bags for easy collection and disposal.

NISEPA made it known that the intervention is a preventive therapy towards avoiding environmental disasters such as floods. The agency is also embarking on the de-siltation of culverts and clearing of major public drainages for the free floor of water that causes flooding.
